Kaira Aaron Carter

The story of Kaira Carter and Woman Scorned began on sunny day on Iowa State University's central campus. There were about 8 ISUC/WS people out throwing discs around, when we saw some "frisbee for fun" people walk up and start throwing as well. After about 20 minutes the girl that was with them, came over and asked if we played for the ISU Ultimate team and if she could come play with us. AWESOME! It is pretty rare that people approach us to come play with us. Of course, we said heck yeah!

Kaira was hooked from the beginning! In fact, her first practice was like a Tuesday and she came to our tournament that following Saturday...in AUSTIN, TX (and she couldn't even play due to UPA rostering rules)!! She has been at practice and tournaments ever since.

Kaira's ultimate skills started prior to WS with some summer league and playing on a few teams with friends in high school. This was awesome for us because it gave her a solid basis to build from, and she was alread hooked on the sport. Even though she had some knowledge of ultimate, it has not weakened her thirst to improve. She is constantly jumping on the line every chance she gets, asking for help in practice, and striving to be the best player that she can be.

While she only started a little over a month ago, you would not be able to guess it on the field. She has great deep cuts, takes advantage of her defense well, isn't afraid to continue the disc upfield, and is comfortable with the disc in her hands. Kaira has a TON of potential and I am sure that she will be back in the fall, ready to tear up the field.

Off the field, Kaira is pretty baller. Although I haven't had much time to get to know her, she has definitely proved herself in a short amount of time. Fool's Fest was a pretty eye opening tournament for her in many ways. She got to play a tourney with WS, she got to experience some hotel party action, and she participated in the ridiculousness of the Fool's Fest party. Ummm, yeah, she fits in pretty well with the ultimate scene.

Kaira is a freshman here at ISU, and her major is Interdisciplinary Studies. To be completely honest, I have no idea what that is. She is also a BAND NERD! We have several ex-band geeks on the team, so she fits in well there. She is also a red head, so it works out well when we call the Jane Ly play, "Red heads go deep!" Kaira even has a field cheer, and that usually takes some time to develop. Usually it involves her last name (Carter) and any other famous person we can think of (Coach, Aaron, Nick....). We are excited to have her on the team and love watching her grow into an amazing ultimate player and teammate!
