It's hard not to notice Jessica "J-rick" Erickson in any way. She's tall and long legged (see: 3 year running lock-down on inter-team 'BEST LEGS' award) and has beautiful red hair and flawless complexion. Okay, let's face it. A lot of us spend a lot of time wishing we could look as good as this girl does without trying. But aside from her model good-looks she knows how to use her long-legged length on the ultimate field making consistent and graceful grabs and puts. And for both sides of this disc, this girl is invaluable to Woman Scorned.
In life, there are never very many constants but there may be a few. One of them is that no matter how hard you wish it wouldn't happen, someone will inevitably forget their cleats, jersey or toothbrush when traveling to a tournament. The other is that J-rick is the girl you want marking for you in a zone cup. The picture below says it all but in addition to her wing-span you've also got lightness of feet. How does anyone ever want to try a throw with her anywhere near them?Jessy dominates in all respects, truly defining what I like to term a triple threat. Shut down defense, amazing cutting ability and great throws. That's why she an integral part to our offense structure. She's open at will and when she has the opportunity for a continue huck beyond 30 yards, she can make it happen with the most beautifully shaped high release backhands AND forehands. As far as receiving goes, no one has stickier hands than J-Rick. How in the world she catches some of the hucks she does is beyond me but I'm also grateful for it whenever I put up something ridiculous to her long. Highlight reel for everyone of the 2008-2009 season was the Saturday pool play game against Eau Claire on game point when I put up the hugest hammer of my life to J-Rick in the back corner of the endzone. Because this girl is so consistent, I didn't even have to watch the outcome, I knew she'd make it happen. That's one of my favorite pass connections of my entire life...shall we do it again some time? :)
But all of this wouldn't matter if Jessy didn't also make you envious of her in her life off the field. She dresses way snazzier then you ever will. Making bohemian fashion out of a simple shirt, skirt and sunglasses combo. Her effortless beauty and style are hard to beat. She knows the best music and spends a lot of time seeing the best bands and the coolest concerts. Having spent some time abroad in Australia I can't help but think to myself, "Yes. Jessy fits right in with the Aussie cool 'no worries' type of personality." Not only that but this Biology major loves the world she lives in and has an interest in taking care of it. How is that not the epitome of cool?
In all kinds of ways, Jessy is one the best teammates a person can have. She's a solid friend and a solid teammate. Dependable whenever it counts. I only hope this stud goes on to prove her glory in the club season in the future beyond the value she proves to have for her Scorned team. Go J-Rick!
